Plan before implementation
SpecKit is a browser-based planning workspace that turns a plain-language software idea into a connected technical blueprint. It is designed for the stage where product managers, founders, students, and engineers need to agree on what to build before implementation begins.
The starting point is intentionally simple: describe the product, its users, and the problem it should solve. SpecKit uses that context to organize requirements and technical decisions into Markdown documents that can be reviewed by people and supplied to coding tools.
Core problem
Disconnected decisions
A product brief, database model, API contract, and delivery plan can drift when each is maintained separately. Ambiguous features also create different interpretations across a team.
SpecKit approach
A connected blueprint
The workspace generates a relevant bundle of Markdown planning documents, then lets you request changes while reviewing which related documents may also need an update.
What the workflow produces
The document bundle adapts to the project. It can include product requirements, functional requirements, features, data models, API contracts, business rules, user flows, architecture, design guidance, and a delivery roadmap. The goal is not to maximize the number of files; it is to provide the context that the project actually needs.
Continue with technology stack selection to see how implementation choices influence the blueprint, or return to the documentation hub.
